NEED MORE CUSTOMERS?
Get your pen & paper and take notes, entrepreneur.
Every business has different numbers. Some of you might need more than the 25 new customers I needed for my Walmart location, some might need less. (If you haven't seen that reel yet, check it out here)
Here's the thing: whether it's 30 customers like I aimed for in my first business, or the hundreds I needed in my latest biz venture—the number doesn't matter. What matters is keeping fresh customers coming in. That's your business's LIFEBLOOD.
Speaking of which, if you haven't watched the reel of me in my Freeman boat yet, watch it here (it’s a gem and drops a couple bombs for ‘ya…..)
THE 30-CUSTOMER CHALLENGE
When I was running my first business, I set a goal: 30 new customers every month.
My manager said it was impossible. He was right... and wrong.
Here's what I mean:
No single TACTIC was going to bring in 30 new customers.
But 10 small TACTICS, each bringing in 3-4 customers built my overall STRATEGY !!!!
That's how you win the game.
That’s what today’s email is about. Getting more customers, consistently.
THE MYTH OF THE “ONE BIG THING”
Think of it like fishing: You don't throw one huge net and hope for the best. You cast multiple lines in different spots.
Here's what that looks like in business:
1. LOCATION-BASED STRATEGIES
o Strategic banner placement during peak seasons
For instance, and this is a REEL Example.. Do you remember the commercials that were about milk and the tag line was WHAT ?? Do you remember?
So, I’m not going to tell you, but what I will tell you is this I made a white banner with black writing that simply said:
“GOT CASH?”
I owned a loan company and that was all the customers needed to hear. It fit in with the commercial that was dominating the tv at the time:

TIP- Enter the conversation that is already going on in your customers head. BE clear, bold, compelling, simple. That ONE tip alone is worth your time here today…
o Window Graphics
I see so many businesses put so much garb on the windows that you cannot even tell what that businesses primary product offerings are.
Get clear, get simple.
Remember: you have a mere fraction of seconds to attract attention and hold it.
Send me shots of your store front and I will critique for you.
PS: If you don’t have thick skin don’t try me, likely I will shred your dream store front. My coach visited and destroyed my store front and it was a real kick to my ego, but he was more than correct…. Short term pain for long term gain!!
o Community event presence
I can’t say enough about joining the chamber and attending the events.
(Oh, I didn’t attend but my store managers did and they felt like big shots representing the company they worked for and loved.)
Do you know why banks attend every chamber meeting, lyons club, ribbon cuttings, etc…etc…etc… ?? And why they give every baseball team $$$$ while putting their names on jerseys?
It’s cheap.
Every single parent thinks the bank is a good community steward.
2. WORD-OF-MOUTH
o Refer-a-friend programs
If you don’t have this in place inside your business… SHAME ON YOU !!! It doesn’t matter what I say about myself, what matters is what my customers say about me.
o Customer appreciation events
Now here’s a big one.
Open house to your best customers, let them see behind the scenes (as much as you can) dress your staff in tux and gown and serve the customers after hours or on a Saturday.
THIS WILL CREATE RELATIONSHIPS…
3. PROMOTIONS
o Limited-time offers that force action
Nothing lights a fire under a customer like a deadline. When you create urgency, you eliminate hesitation.
o Loyalty programs
People love free stuff—but more importantly, they love being rewarded for their loyalty. A solid loyalty program keeps customers coming back instead of shopping around.
o VIP deals for repeat customers
Although this entire e-mail is about acquiring new customers, seomtimes your best ones are right in front of you… Make those customers feel like insiders.
4. GUERRILLA MARKETING
o Targeted flyer distribution
Think: laundromats, coffee shops, gyms… YES this still works!
o Get outside
Talk to people, pass out cards, make real connections.
I taught my managers how to do BDL (Business Development) and I held them accountable to visiting businesses on Wednesdays to create, nurture and strengthen our name in the community.
o Local Facebook Groups
People trust recommendations from neighbors
o Give out free stuff
(yes, really—people LOVE free)
Reel life example:
When we cashed a tax check we gave away a ***FREE T-Shirt*** that had a character that appeared to be drinking and possibly drunk - the shirt said:
“I got Cashed @ All American Check Cashing.”
The last thing we handed them was, get ready…
We handed them a PAYDAY bar on top of all their cash…
Simple, fun, rewarding for all…
THE MATH THAT MATTERS
Let's break this down:
· 10 different TACTICS
· Each bringing in just 3-4 customers
· That's 30-40 new customers monthly
· All through simple, often free methods… (You’re Welcome!)
THE REAL SECRET
The key is combining these methods. When someone sees your business card, then notices your banner on their commute, then gets a referral from a friend—that's when magic happens!!!
It's not just about reaching people; it's about reaching them multiple times through different channels. In today's noisy world, standing out means being everywhere. Not with massive budgets, but with smart, targeted efforts that compound over time.
Marketing isn’t a one-time thing. It’s constant, creative, and layered. The more places people see you, the more likely they are to buy from you.
Stop hoping customers magically show up. Make it impossible for them to miss you.
TAKING ACTION
This week, I challenge you to:
1. List 10 potential customer touchpoints
2. Implement 2-3 new Tactics to compliment your overall strategy
3. Track which ones work best for your business
