DEAR AMAZON: THANKS FOR MAKING ME RICH 💰

Amazon's biggest weakness = your biggest opportunity

Hey Empire Builders…

I know this might sound crazy, but I owe Jeff Bezos a fruit basket. Maybe throw in some flowers for the Walmart executives too. Why? Because these corporate giants have been my secret weapons for getting rich.

No, I didn't invest in Amazon stock in 1997 (though I probably should have). Instead, these guys have been inadvertently making small businesses look like shining beacons of customer service excellence.

LET ME EXPLAIN…

Every time Amazon delivers the wrong item, every time a customer gets lost in Walmart's automated phone maze, every time someone receives a damaged package with zero human contact to resolve it – they're basically running a marketing campaign FOR small businesses like mine & yours.

Here's what I mean:

When Amazon says: "Your package was delivered" (to someone else's porch)
We say: "Let me personally make sure this gets to YOUR hands"

When big box stores say: "That item is out of stock" (with no alternative)
We say: "I don't have that exact thing, but I know exactly what will work even better"

When corporate customer service says: "Your call is important to us" (for the 47th minute)
We say: "Hey Sarah! How's your dog doing? The one you told me about last month?"

The Million-Dollar Difference: RELATIONSHIPS

Here's what Amazon's algorithm will never understand – business isn't just about efficiency and price points. It's about the moment when Mrs. Johnson tells you her grandson is graduating and you remember to ask about it three weeks later. It's about knowing that Tom prefers his coffee extra strong and always ordering his usual plus one experimental roast.

Big corporations optimize for: Scale, efficiency, profit margins
Small businesses optimize for: Humans, relationships, community

HERE’S HOW TO TURN CORPORATE COLDNESS INTO YOUR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE:

1. The Personal Touch Protocol
Remember details about your customers' lives. Keep notes. Ask follow-up questions. When someone mentions their kid's soccer game, check in about it next time you see them.

2. The "Actually Available" Advantage
When customers can't reach a human at big companies, make sure YOU are reachable. Give out your direct number. Respond to emails personally. Be the opposite of an automated system.

3. The Local Hero Strategy
Position yourself as the neighborhood solution. While Amazon delivers to everyone, you deliver for YOUR community specifically. Know local events, support local causes, become woven into the fabric of your area.

4. The Flexibility Factor
Big companies have policies. You have solutions. Can't return something after 30 days at Target? No problem at your place. Need a rush order for a birthday surprise? You've got them covered.

THE #’S DON’T LIE

Did you know:

  • 73% of customers will pay more for excellent customer service

  • Local businesses that focus on relationships have 47% higher customer retention

  • Word-of-mouth referrals from relationship-based businesses convert at 5x the rate of online ads

So while Amazon is busy optimizing delivery routes, you can be busy optimizing human connections.

YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK

Pick three existing customers and reach out with something personal – not a sales pitch, just a genuine "how are you doing?" message. Reference something specific from a previous conversation. Watch what happens.
