6 MONTHS DOWN, 6 MONTHS TO GO
the brutal truth about your goals
Last week, I was chatting with Sarah, a friend of mine who also happens to be a brilliant entrepreneur with a “built from scratch” $2M company. We were discussing the importance of goals, but how easy it is to neglect them. She pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from her desk drawer. It was her January goals list.
"I forgot I even wrote these," she said.
Sound familiar? Your dreams have an expiration date.
Here's what I told Sarah (and what I'm telling you): The graveyard of business dreams is littered with good intentions and forgotten January promises.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HALFWAY
Most entrepreneurs treat goal-setting like a New Year's resolution…….. exciting for 48 hours, then buried under daily fires. But the businesses that dominate? They treat goals like GPS coordinates, constantly recalibrating their route.

I've watched too many brilliant people drift through entire years, building impressive-looking busy work while their real dreams collect dust. The only thing worse than not hitting your goals? Not even remembering what they were.
YOUR MID YEAR RESET CHECKLIST
✅ EXCAVATE YOUR GOALS
· Dig up whatever you wrote in January (or admit you didn't)
· If they're buried in some forgotten app, print them out
· Can't find them? That's your first red flag
✅ BRUTAL HONESTY AUDIT
· What's actually working? (Be specific)
· What's completely stalled? (Be honest)
· What goals feel meaningless now? (Permission to delete)
· What's missing that you need now? (Add it)
✅ REWRITE FOR REALITY
· Make each goal pass the "stranger test"—could someone else measure your progress?
· Add deadlines that actually scare you a little
· If it doesn't connect to revenue, relationships, or your bigger vision, cut it
✅ MAKE THEM IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE
· Write your #1 goal on a sticky note
· Put it somewhere you can't avoid: bathroom mirror, steering wheel, computer monitor
· Sarah has now put hers on her coffee maker so she sees it every morning
✅ TAKE ONE MESSY ACTION
· Send that email you've been avoiding
· Make that call that feels uncomfortable
· Fix that broken process that's been haunting you
· Perfect plans are procrastination in disguise
START FROM SCRATCH IF NEED BE
No goals yet? Here's your emergency playbook:
Day 1: Pick ONE thing that would change everything by December 31st. Not three things. One.
Day 2: Make it so specific your 10-year-old could measure it. "Grow the business" becomes "Hit $500K revenue by Dec 31st."
Day 3: Tell someone who will actually check on you. Not your spouse (they're too nice). Tell someone who will ask tough questions.
Day 4: Schedule your first action for this week. Not "research options"—actual action.
THE SYSTEM THAT WORKS
Sarah's crumpled paper taught me something: Motivation is a sugar rush. Systems are sustainable fuel.
The businesses crushing it right now aren't running on inspiration…. they're running on weekly goal reviews, monthly recalibrations, and quarterly deep dives. They treat their goals like a living document, not a January time capsule.
Six months are gone. Six months remain. That's either devastating or liberating—you choose.
The entrepreneurs who dominate the second half aren't the ones who had perfect January plans. They're the ones who course-correct in July.
Start today. Not Monday. Today.
